What is Sohabe?

Well for starters, 'Sohabe' is my name: Mr. Sohabe Hashmi.

Normally it is spelt as: Sohaib. My mother asked the nurse after I was born (during the registration process) how one would spell my name so people would not mispronounce it and the nurse suggested 'Sohabe'.

It is pronounced as "Suh-Hay-Abe" without any pauses but I accept anything as long as it isn't Suzanne. lol.  It appears that I would have had less hassles with pronunciation if she went with 'Sohaib'.

It doesn't matter, for the most part people ask for the pronunciation or they learn it soon enough. If they get it wrong I am never offended... I just think about when I mispronounce other foreign names unintentionally.

I am getting this blog going to share the various things I encounter, hear about and experience throughout my life.  I am not a scholar, there will be typos in my posts, but I believe we should all collectively share experiences (in one way or another) which ultimately leads to our progression as as an individual and as a society.

Maybe in my next post I will share the history/origin of my name.
